The journey has some spectacular views of mountains and gushing rivers— soon after Manali, the ascent to the Rohtang Pass, one of the most treacherous passes in the region begins. Rohtang means ‘piles of dead bodies’ as the sudden weather changes in the pass claim many lives. During the descent, one can see the White Sail glacier, the sacred Rangcha mountain and the Chandra Bhaga confluence at Tandi to finally reach Keylong. From here, one moves on to Darcha and then to Zingzing Bar and Baralacha La one of the most desolate spots in the world with scree covered mountainsides. The final pass to be crossed, the Tanglang La at 5328m is the highest point on this highwayand quite popular as a spot to be photographed.
